Just steps away from the Denver Center for Performing Arts is a Denver restaurant that is rather unique in one of its mottos, “We Care About DIRT.”  After all, you won’t find any other restaurants declaring such ideals, nor placing actual dirt on their walls.  The idea is, of course, rooted in dirt, but extends to draw people’s respect for dirt, where their food and wine really comes from.  Row 14 acknowledges that their restaurant is built from the dirt up, deriving most of its success from its high-quality wine and food that ultimately is dependent upon the finest of dirt.

Owner and wine director David Schneider includes this dirt to table philosophy with his award-winning wine list that spans the world’s various dirts, offering the wine drinker of Row 14 a diverse array of flavors for the palette.  To offer a tasting of what Colorado’s dirt may offer, the wine menu always includes Colorado wines as well as a “Colorado Proud” Wine Flight featuring wine from the Infinite Monkey, the Bookcliff & Two Rivers Wineries.  For the perfect wine and food synergy, diners can enjoy the “Featured Wine and Food Pairing” including such enticing combinations as the roasted duck breast coupled with a New Zealand Pinot Noir that smells of violets and tastes of red berries, plums, and mocha.

Row 14 also offers a cocktail menu that is quite simple and to the point featuring cocktails that are succinctly, and yet eloquently named, “The Bourbon,” “The Vodka,” “The Rye,” “The Rum,” “The Tequila,” and to spice things up the “Mucho Take it Easy” made with exotic silver tequila, luxardo trippilum, fresh lime, cucumbers, and jalapeno chiles.  It is a drink that will have you feeling like you are taking it easy on a sunny beach in Mexico.

Last but certainly not least, Row 14 loves its beer that also comes from the dirt via barley, hops, etc. etc.  From the flemish sour “Duchesse de Bourgogne,” the bohemian pilsner “Pilsner Urquel”, to the gluten-free lager “Estrella Damm”, or the nonalcoholic “Buckler NA,” Row 14 offers something that will appeal to every person’s individual beer style.

Carefully sourcing from the dirt all the way to the glass, Row 14 highlights the important role that good DIRT plays in fine drinking.  In a world overwhelmed by concrete, Row 14 strives to remind its diners that in the end, we all depend upon plain ol’ DIRT.
