Where To Eat This Weekend: (Denver) Al Lado

It’s starting to get a little cooler outside, it actually snowed a couple of inches here in the Mile High City the last couple of days and when that happens I tend to look for comforting food and of course drink.  When thinking of comforting food on a cold night I tend towards hardier dishes; dishes that are slow cooked and particularly dishes that are braised.  I love how the rich, intense flavors meld together with the meat of choice, the spices and of course the braising liquid.  One place I really enjoy is Al Lado.  Richard Sandoval’s newest Denver offering, a latino tapas and wine bar (don’t worry, their tequila selection is outstanding as well.)

Delicious!

One of my favorite dishes at Al lado is the Rioja braised short rib.  You read correctly, it is everything I want on a cold night, tender beef that has been bathing in a luxurious bath of rioja wine, broth and spices.  It is melt in your mouth finish with a sip of an excellent Rioja good.  Roll your eyes gasping good. That’s just one of their delicious cold evening offerings, they have many more.  And considering it’s a wine bar, they have a lot more of that as well.
